Dynamic Load Test

Fast, Reliable Testing for Foundation Performance

At AE Construction Ltd, we provide Dynamic Load Testing (DLT) services for quick and effective evaluation of pile capacity and driving performance. This non-destructive testing method is ideal for verifying the structural integrity and bearing capacity of driven piles—without the time or setup requirements of static testing.

What is Dynamic Load Testing?

Dynamic Load Testing involves applying a high-strain impact force to the top of a pile using a hammer (typically the same one used during installation) while sensors measure stress waves traveling through the pile. The results are analyzed to estimate:

  • Ultimate load capacity

  • Driving resistance and efficiency

  • Pile integrity and potential defects

  • Soil resistance distribution (shaft and toe)

We use advanced PDA (Pile Driving Analyzer) systems to capture high-resolution data in real-time.

When to Use Dynamic Load Testing

DLT is an excellent solution for:

  • Driven precast concrete piles

  • Projects requiring quick on-site verification

  • Confirming load capacity after pile driving

  • Supplementing or replacing static load tests in fast-paced projects

  • Quality assurance in high-volume piling works

  • Post-installation testing for infrastructure, bridges, or high-rises

It is conducted in accordance with international standards like ASTM D4945 and Eurocode 7.

Our Testing Process

  1. Preparation & Sensor Installation
Strain gauges and accelerometers are attached to the pile head using quick-set epoxy or steel bands.

  2. Impact Loading
A hammer strike is applied (typically from a drop hammer or diesel hammer) to generate a stress wave.

  3. Data Collection via PDA
Sensors measure force and velocity, capturing the pile’s response to the impact.

  4. Signal Matching & Analysis
Specialized software compares actual signals to theoretical models, estimating capacity and detecting defects.

  5. Reporting & Interpretation
We deliver a comprehensive report with graphs, waveforms, and load-settlement relationships—within hours of testing.

Advantages of Dynamic Load Testing

  • Faster and more economical than static tests

  • ✅ Provides immediate feedback on pile performance

  • ✅ Verifies installation quality and driving stresses

  • ✅ Identifies structural defects, necking, or cracking

  • ✅ Helps optimize pile length and driving energy

  • ✅ Reduces over-design and saves material costs

Static vs. Dynamic Load Test: When to Choose

Criteria Static Load Test Dynamic Load Test
Test Duration 1–3 days < 1 hour
Setup Complexity High (kentledge/reaction) Low
Cost High Lower
Result Accuracy Direct measurement Estimated (via model)
Best for Critical projects High-speed project cycles

We often recommend a combination of both for high-assurance projects.
